It is astounding that the Innovation program focuses primarily on large corporate participants and viewpoints, when the record over the past 25 years is that most innovation for new products occurs in small fast growth entrepreneurial companies. After watching last night's CNBC segment on The Business of Innovation, I thought it would be helpful for many of the viewers to know that the Product Development & Management Association (PDMA) is the premier global advocate and comprehensive resource for the profession of product development and innovation. The Association's mantra is that they "Connect Innovators Worldwide." PDMA champions a global community that enables people and businesses to grow and prosper through innovation and the introduction and management of new products to the world market. Through a combination of strategically integrated resources encompassing professional development, education, experience, networking, collaboration, certification, and recognition, PDMA aims to improve the effectiveness of individuals and organizations in product development and management.
During the six years I have been producing the PDMA's International Annual Conferences, I have had the pleasure of working with many of the people featured on CNBC's The Business of Innovation series, and certainly have brought the best practices of many (if not all) of the companies highlighted to our annual events.
This year, our 32nd Annual Conference is taking place September 15-17, 2008 in Orlando, FL and will be featuring companies such as iRobot, IBM, Subaru, Dell, Haworth, MIT's Media Lab, Dial Corporation, Medtronic...and many more. In the spirit of Connecting Innovators Worldwide, I would like to offer CNBC viewers a discount on attending. Just mention priority code CNBC08IC during the on-line registration process, which can be accessed at www.pdma.org. Feel free to also contribute to our blog!
Enjoy and I hope to see you there so I can introduce you to the world of PDMA. Who knows, maybe we will be featured on a future segment of the show!

Although not a blog, this site allows people to download patents in PDF format for free.
Patent Retriever - http://www.patentretriever.com
If you want to see innovation manifested, a good place to start looking is patents. Just enter a patent number after doing a search on a specific technology, and you should be able to start reading the patent immediately.

I recently attended the Angel Investor Summit in Denver, CO and the overall theme among ALL attendees was that large corporations were uninventive dullards and lumbering dinosaurs who relied on their support of state and national politicians as well as K street lobbyists to maintain their dominant positions. The future is and always has been the small, nimble company and entrepreneurs who think on their feet and don't need meetings to make decisions.
Also, the biggest problem with corporations is that management stifles all innovation unless it can find a way to take complete and total control of and credit for said innovation, process or product.

"The Business of Innovation" is unneccessarily made a complex subject.
I call a simple approach - "Innovationeering (TM) - Engineering Innovations by Design".
It requires every Enterprise to innovate concurrently and continuously following three types of innovations:
1. Product Innovations
2. Process Innovations
3. Management Innovations
Each innovation must produce one or more of following benefits in short and/or long term basis:
1. Create cost advantage
2. Grow Revenue, Profit, Market share and Markets
3. Create strategic security in terms of still being in profitable business 5 years from NOW
This approach is very effective because it is very simple to understand and very easy to implement. It is applicable to Local and Global companies regardless of the type of business and their ownership structures.
I just described "Innovationeering" at 60,000 feet level. Please connect with me for details and discussions.
Thank you.

There are many innovations available that most companies, large and small, are not taking advantage of. As an exsample, I own a business which sells remaufactured laser jet cartridges. They are excellent quality and are green products. Not only are they green but you also save money, which is this ecomomy every company should be thinking about.
The vote on whether or not to use green products is what sparked this comment. There are green, innovative products out there. The issue is getting companies to use them.
